Attack the Block

The new British low-budget film Attack the Block is like a combination of Shaun of the Dead and BMX Bandits. It's about a bunch of teenage ne'er-do-wells who live in a tower block ('Wyndham Tower' - for the SF fans) which is attacked by aliens. The aliens are fierce animals rather than intelligent invaders. I personally thought it was quite funny, and told in a lively way. It's not deep, and it's not going to stay with you, but it's warm and engaging. It's nice to see a film set in the small self-contained world of people without any prospects, for whom the small powers of the local drug dealer and the local police are the big life factors. Most of the actors are very young kids, and they aren't too bad. It's a short cheery film.
