07:13 am - Not quite the conflagration we had been banking on
Follow up to the failed apocalypse. Supercilious people like me have been mocking 'em for decades:

Will this Wind... (video from 1979) with Peter Cook, Eleanor Bron, Rowan Atkinson etc.

The original (audio-only) sketch from 1962

Bonus sketch - Rowan Atkinson: Welcome to Hell. 'You must be feeling a right bunch of nitwits'.

'Will This Wind' is one of the funniest sketches ever. My sister and I regularly quote it at each other.

I think it's a function of age that I don't laugh in that almost-can't-breathe way any more. I can remember just dying of laughter at that sketch, or Fawlty Towers, or Not the Nine O'Clock News.

Yes, i know what you mean. The first time I saw Eddie Izzard live I laughed just like that - while I still think he's really, really funny I just don't wet my pants laughing any more.

I'd forgotten about the 'welcome to hell' sketch, so thanks for the reminder!

Oh, Peter Cook! I can't even look at him without giggling.
