|10:43 am - The only turdidae I want to see in a tree is a song thrush|
I went for a lovely walk yesterday, but I just have to rant about one thing. Dog poo. Of course it's fine for dogs to poo in the countryside, if it's off the track (say in a ditch, where only other animals are going to encounter it). It probably breaks down very quickly. Good.
And I don't mind owners picking up the dog poo in a little plastic bag. In an urban setting that's essential. In the countryside - fine. Yes, also good.
But what I can't stand is owners putting the biodegradable dog poo into a sealed non-eco-friendly plastic baggy, and leaving it lying there. Worst of all (and why the hell do they do this?) hang the little repulsive bag of decaying dog turds on a pretty tree?
'Hey, look at the fluffy willow buds... On second thoughts look away again.'
Leave it to decay, or take it away. But don't hang it up for me to inspect, because I don't wanna see it.
People do that? Why, in the name of sense?
I know! I almost can't express how much it astounds me.
ETA - sudden thought - they are attempting to throw the bag into the woods (a bad thing in itself, because of the plastic, but I can understand they don't want to carry it) and it gets hooked in a tree by accident? Repeatedly?
I think that's the most likely reason.

I've seen them carefully tied to the branches.
Bang goes that theory then

OMG I KNOW. So much better to leave it where it is!
That's what gets me. I have never seen anyone do it but I feel I'd like to shake them. Why not just leave it alone.
You have the advantage because horse poo is not an issue - benefits of a grass diet. It just adds to the rural ambience ;-)
Eeech, that's revolting.
I would also like to mention the dog owners who seem to conscientiously clean up their dogs' poo on the pavements around my house, but let them crap all over the small stretch of woodland between here and the main road. The woodland would be really lovely if it weren't carpeted with crap. We have started referring to it as 'the hundred-acre wood' because it's so full of poo.
erp, this is why I don't think I could have a dog, although they are lovely animals. I could only get one if I had a big stretch of moorland they could go and use far away from me.

I entirely agree with you, this is a Bad Thing. But I can almost construct a scenario where a dog owner, at the start of a long circular walk, thinks 'oh, I don't want to carry this poo for the next 7 miles, if I hang it up somewhere obvious here I'll remember to pick it up at the end of the long circular walk'. Still bad though.
And then forgets to pick it up. Could be.
Aaaargh, I remember a reality tv show in which some git had filled an entire tree with bags like that, throwing them up there each day for months. They managed to catch him in the act so they could prosecute. Why the &*$# do people do this???
I am flabbergasted. Some people like the feeling of dirtying things up, in some horrid part of their brains.
What?! Who would do that?
I know. It's so much effort to be repulsive.
It is utter madness and drives me insane!
When I am out I want to say something, because it's so crackers, but then I don't want to bring the attention of my companions to the sight, so I kind of bottle it up and all my exasperation is coming out in this post
And the smell! when those thoughtfully abandoned plastic bags heat up...
It's a horrible habit.
Oh, man, I don't want to consider that
People do the bags-in-trees thing a lot in my local wood, despite many NT signs telling them not too. It's foul.
I haven't seen a sign about it yet. Anyway, that proves it's a real thing, not just some kind of accident.
First I've heard of the whole thing. Leaving the bag to get it on return would make sense....
If the NT can put up signs, why not try putting out some trash cans?
Signs are a one-off cost, bins require emptying?
I remember reading someone else from across the pond talking about this. We Americans would never do something so vulgar. We just leave the steaming piles of dog poop where they lay so the bags don't dirty up the landscape. ;)
At least it's a big country
I mean, really...
...no, I have nothing but WHAT
btw, You've reminded me of another dog-poo related WTF I keep having. Just inside the entrance of our supermarket there is a litter bin. On the litter bin, there is a note specifically asking that people do not use this bin to dispose of dog poo. I mean, really, how could that note even be necessary?
People; can't kill 'em, can't share a planet with 'em
