03:14 pm - geek hierarchy redux
People may be familiar with the geek hierarchy, which has been discussed before.

For your edification here is the pagan hierarchy.

As with the geek hierarchy, I'm not making a judgement myself. It's an analysis of social attitudes not worth, still less of my opinion of worth. But to be honest Theosophists dolook down on people who think they are elves. Though Nietzchean existentialists looking down on Neo-platonists - who knew?

I think pretty much everyone looks down on people who think they're elves, don't they?

The Geek Hierarchy really needs to be updated with a new slot underneath the furry Trekkie-Sues for Lord of the Rings Real People Slash.

I'm nervous to say anything too disparaging in case someone I know and like might be an aficionado of this - uh - genre. But I've got to say that not only does it fail to appeal, but the behaviour of some of the fans - perhaps a tiny minority of them to be fair - seems appalling.

Perhaps a bit like what I posted about that guy and his fantasy lesbians. It's OK if it's in your head, and you realise it's nothing to do with real life, but if it starts encroaching on other people it's going too far.

What do you think if it stays just as stories that the fandom keep strictly to themselves?

They can write what they want where they want, by me. I avert my eyes and make a face when I see it, but that's entirely my concern. I'm just saying it's a thing to which even furry Trekkie-Sues can feel aesthetically superior.

Mind you I am impressed that these people have managed to find a point at which icky and deadly dull meet.
