07:55 pm - Rumours of change
I welcome the rumours that Charles Kennedy might defect to Labour - it's obviously his decision, and I still like him whether he does it or not.

I think David Milliband is wrong for saying he wants to make the Lib Dems extinct. I think the current Lib Dem party is doomed. But it's not Labour's concern whether right wing opinion is represented by one party or two parties, but to win on their own merits. Similarly I despise the comments from the current Government that they will tweak the electoral system to make it impossible for people to elect a Labour government. Both sides should cut this bullshit out.

WHAT?!
That's foul. In more than one sense of the word.

I should explain the context. The justification is that the current system makes it too easy to elect a Labour government, so this is redressing the balance. The way it is described in private is 'we will keep Labour out of power'. It's to do with the way Labour votes are less likely to be 'wasted' because they are more geographically concentrated in the North, Scotland and Wales.

Ah.

That's why I prefer a preferential voting system. It may be harder to count the votes, but no vote is ever wasted.

What I want to know is, with PR how are we going to stop the prferred party being "none of the above"?

We aren't going to have PR now anyway.
