While I'm on the subject of psycho fundamentalists I draw your attention to this poll of religious belief in the USA. I don't mean to bang on about America, but I think it is very important for us who have sceptical or minority religious opinions to be aware of where mainstream religious organisation would take us if they were given the opportunity. Religion seems harmless in this country, but it is because it is weak that it is kindly and undogmatic. We have to keep it weak.

If you don't want to be bothered with sifting through the results, here are some highlights. This is based on the adult population of the USA.

"It rained for 40 days and nights, the entire world was flooded, and only Noah, his family and the animals on their ark survived"
60% of adults believe this is literally true.

the world was created in six days
61% of adults believe this is literally true.

the bible was written by men (by which they mean human beings, as opposed to god).
Only 14% of adult americans think the Bible was written by human beings.
