On football

Before the World Cup my brother phoned round the bookies, trying to place a bet that Wayne Rooney wouldn't score one goal. He said 'I was trying to cash in on the fact that I'm the only person who thinks he's rubbish'. They wouldn't take his money. Make of that what you will. Personally I think Rooney is OK, but there's something wrong with him at the moment.

I spoke to my Italian ex-brother-in-law this evening. He said 'If you have to go out, and everyone does, then you might as well go out with the best match of the tournament. I hope England go out with a really good match.' Thanks, I guess.
