OK I am going to just forget politics for a while, because things will unfold in their own good time, at which point I will put my 'I told you so' hat on (or not). I'm just going to post about books and plays and things like that for now.

Michael Sheen is the latest actor lined up to play Hamlet. I have a lot of poetry on my i-Pod read by him, I played altariel and katlinel his reading of Kubla Khan last time they were at my house, and I thought he was great as Brian Clough in The Damned United. Will definitely try to get a ticket - anyone else want to go?

The Guardian had a nice article yesterday with five age-band lists of The Best Children's Books of All Time:

Best books: 0-2 year-olds

Best books: 2-4 year-olds

Best books: 5-7 year-olds

Best books: 8-12 year-olds

Best books: 12-years-old and over

(those are links to the lists)

As always the lists seem odd, though I have read most of them. Here are my top ten children's books:

Wind in the Willows
Alice in Wonderland
Winnie the Pooh
Where the Wild Things Are
Moomintroll (any)
Stig of the Dump
His Dark Materials
Narnia books (I loved them as a kid)
The Borrowers
The Hobbit

I'm incredibly textual, I think. Also impatient. I used to enjoy reading picture books with my mother when I was two or so and could barely make out the text, but as soon as I could read properly I couldn't see the point of acquiring the story at the glacial pace of the average reading aloud speed.
