|09:30 am - Eastercon|
This time next week I will be at Eastercon. I am coming on the Friday and staying until Sunday. I have never been before and I am a bit nervous. I have four activities to take part in.
I'm doing a workshop on translating poetry, using a couple of Chinese poems as examples. I'm doing a performance workshop, and I'm a judge for the Saturday evening masquerade. And then on Sunday I am on a panel talking about the practice of reviewing. I have been feeling extra nervous about these, because I feel I am not expert or informed enough. However, this is my commitment, that I will do my best to make these enjoyable and worthwhile for anyone who is there.
Reading through the programme highlights I see there is a poetry reading on Sunday night, so I might see if I can extend my booking and stay for that.
I am on a panel/running a workshop/ other activity
No - just attending
ETA - I meant to say that if you are part of an event or activity please comment to say what it is.
I think that you'll have a really good time and that participating will help prevent any of those 'OMG, why am I here' feelings :)
Thank you. I expect I'll enjoy it on the day. People are always supportive when it comes to it.
I'm so glad you're going! Hope you can stay Sunday night, I'd really love to hear you read some of your poetry. I think the whole con is going to be brilliant.
(I've been roped into assisting with Dalek cake making. It could get messy. Rivalry will be fierce. Paul Cornell is judging).
I get so nervous that I can't think much about it in advance, but it's finally coming real for me. I am staying at the main hotel so I hope to be able to see everyone - I've got your phone number so we must make sure we hang out.
Oh brilliant! I'll be there Friday to Monday. I'm on a panel about the Trek film 4pm Friday, and then there's a launch of an anthology I'm in that evening too. The rest of the weekend is clear.
Because Friday is a bank holiday I am hoping to come down early that day, so I will try to get to those.
Yeah, I spotted that you and Abigail had been assigned to that panel together (with Clute, if memory serves!). I'll definitely be in the audience, and will hopefully catch up with you at some other point as well.
God. Make me more nervous. Though it will be great to meet Abigail. Yes, I shall hope to get a chance to see you.
FWIW, my own impression and personal experience, at least regarding performance workshops, is that you are more than qualified for all those items.
And it will be a delight to see you there.
ETA: I'll be there Thursday evening to Tuesday.

Oh, thank you katlinel. I am glad to see so many people I know will be there, I had visions of me drifting lonely through the halls like, er, Ophelia or someone

all will be well. I will be running about generally assisting. And I trhink chairing a Heroes panel.
And we also have a quiet room for overwhelmed people. I believe there will be books and fanzines.
I just saw about that quiet room - Diogenes club or something? Good idea, because I often feel a bit overwhelmed and need a quiet break.
I'm moderating three panels, on Dollhouse, Alan Moore and writer/artist interaction. I'm also doing two repeats from previous Redemptions: the quarterstaff workshop, and a talk on swordplay for writers. And I'm helping out with the Bartitsu talk.
Brilliant. I'd like to make the Alan Moore one. Bartistsu has the most hilarious illustrations
like Monty Python animations. Are you going to grow the moustache for it?
I'm running a workshop on North West morris dancing. A good way to get moving in the early morning.
Crikey, I hope there's lots of space
I'm on the above Dollhouse panel, but that's not till Monday afternoon, and I'm helping with some other at-con bits and bobs but mostly I am having a relaxing convention where I can hang in the bar and chat, so I'll come say hi. I'll probably be at the reviewing panel if nothing else.
Yes. I hope to bump into you though I am not sure we have ever met IRL? My badge will say 'Alison'.

It would be great to meet you IRL. I normally take part in a couple of panels but haven't actually been asked to do anything this year. I did join the Yahoo group but found there was just too much noise to find anything constructive.
I am always very bad at finding out about things or even thinking about it until the last minute. As I say above,my badge will say Alison I think, or my full name perhaps, in any case yes let's meet up. It's going to be great to see people.

I shall be at Eastercon on the Friday and the Sunday, though as somewhat of a late entrant to things I've no idea what I'll be doing yet. I'm certainly not on any panels, and have yet to have a chance to see what panels look like they might be worth attending. I might just be ineffectually (seeing as I'll be driving) propping up the bar.
I'm doing 'Gender in Space Opera', 'Disability and Villains', the Clanger Symposium, and 'What Makes a Feminist Heroine?'.
Do you know the shortlist?
I'm glad you're going to be there, and I hope that you have a great time. I'm sorry you've been feeling nervous about the programme items. I think that 'to be expert and informed enough' is, for most of us, one of those irregular verbs, where the first person is always as you've put it! Good for you for putting yourself down for things, and I think, with your energy and your understanding (in more than one sense), they're fortunate that you have done. I hope that the items go well.
I know what you mean about being nervous; I'm glad that there will be so many people there that you know, and I hope that I'll get to see you, too.
I said in the poll that I'm involved in an activity, but only a little bit behind the scenes.
Thank you glitterboy I hope we get a chance to hang out a bit
I'm doing the radio poetry for '100 objects' tonight too! It all comes at once.
