not into the whole brevity thing

I don't often do these Friday fives but this one is a chance to wallow in thinking about films.

1. What scene always makes you cry?
2. What scene always makes you laugh?
3. What scene always makes you cringe?
4. What scene always confuses you?
5. What scene always makes you want to kill the writers?

1. What scene always makes you cry?

So, so, many. But pick just one. In 'Galaxy Quest', Alan Rickman plays a serious actor who plays the science officer in a Star Trek type TV show. He despises the role and his stupid catch phrase: 'By Grabthar's Hammer, I will be avenged.' He also cordially despises an alien lad, who follows him around, believing him to be the character he plays. Then the adoring fan gets fatally shot. Rickman gathers the dying boy in his arms, and says to him 'By Grabthar's Hammer I will be avenged.' And by god he means it too.

2. What scene always makes you laugh?

In 'The Big Lebowski', Jeff Bridges (The Dude) is in the bath, when a psychotic German band, very loosely resembling Kraftwerk, break into his house with a marmot on a leash. The Dude: 'Nice Marmot'.

Or the following dialogue.

"I'm not Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing."

3. What scene always makes you cringe?

That scene in Blue Velvet between Isabella Rossellini and Dennis Hopper.

That scene in Alien Resurrection where Ripley's half-alien offspring gets sucked into the vacuum.

4. What scene always confuses you?

I am so easily confused. In the olden days, when I used to get smashed before I went to see a film, every film was impenetrably confusing. Like Star Wars - nice ships but what the hell was that all about? (N.B. I have now figured it out).

Every scene in 'Lost Highway' confuses me. This one.

5. What scene always makes you want to kill the writers?

The President's speech at the end of Independence Day.

EDIT - forgot to say, go this from cruisedirector. Also, I just got spammed in the comments to this, by a stupid Jesus-theatre advert, which I deleted. Watch out for it.
