10:01 pm - The Simms
I am posting from my brother's house to say that I really liked the Doctor Who Christmas Special. From past experience this means everyone else on my f-list despised it. But I thought it was a hoot. Also, did the Doctor say he renamed a galaxy 'Alison'? Ooh, I hope it was a nice spiral one.

It was great, wasn't it? And the name on the side of the bus: Sparrow - fab details :-)

I found it a bit uneven and I'm still not a big fan of Simms as The Master, but I did like Tennant, Cribbins, Tennent & Cribbins, and the very end.

Well we will never agree on The Master :-) Cribbins was great though wasn't he.

And it had Timothy Dalton. Never a bad thing.

I missed that! It continues to remind me of Eliot a bit.

I thought it was great: though I now insist on referring to it as The Three Stigmata of Harold Saxon.

I saw you said that. I have read Palmer Eldritch (probably spelled wrong) but I can't remember the plot at all. Now I will have to dig it up and find out. I hope that the D+ the M Join Forces to save the universe.

save the universe

Is that a new euphemism for "shag"?

I found it a bit too silly, mm. Part of it is just an exaggerated version of the problem that the series has as a whole, though: if everything is merrily reversible at the whim of a lead writer who wants an enormous world-ending-doom-death climax as often as possible, then nothing really matters (OH NO this character and entire species are dead NO WAIT THEY'RE TOTALLY BACK HEY). (Relatedly, it would've been nice if it wasn't yet another escalating END OF HUMANITY THE WORLD THE UNIVERSE ALL THE UNIVERSES! ALL THE UNIVERSES AND OH THEIR PASTS AS WELL AND THEY WILL, LIKE, HAVE NEVER EXISTED!! TIME ITSELF WHATEVER THE HELL THAT MEANS plot. But never mind.)

I thought the justification for the return of the Master was both thin and overblown; one or the other would have been fine, but both was a bit much. Also that he didn't need nonsense superpowers and would've been better without them.

Lots of nice bits though. And I know I'm not really its ideal viewer, as I missed the last special and also the previous Master episodes.

Well now you mention it, the escalating levels of destruction are a bit bonkers. The superpowers made it less scary - if he'd just been the ex Prime Minister eating people that would have been much more horrible.

I loved it too! The hunger, the laughing and all the dresses and different clothes! Fabulous.

Tenant as Christmas present reminded me of one of my friends from the Indie disco in Hatfield!

P.S: my dad is wilfred!

F**K my heads going to explode, got to go! (Happy Christmas btw!)

I switched on the telly just before I crashed out last night and saw Tennant as Christmas present, with Catherine Tate as the sweary old lady. I was quite confused.

I enjoyed what I saw of it while watching it amongst family with my brother and uncle providing a DVD commentary of their own while it was on.

Our family are boisterous TV watchers. I like shouting out at the screen. One of my teenage nieces shouted 'I love you!' at the screen. Not sure who she was talking to.

AARGGHH! I can't wait to see it! Am surreptitiously typing this in my bedroom as still shabbat and SC's parents are observing! Logged on specifically to find out what views had generally been!

About as realistic as a Pantomime, and a lot of excuses to have John Simm tied up, on a lead, strapped to a gurney etc.

Yes. He was rather...um...tied up. Loved the intimate moment with him and the Doctor.

I thought it was marvellous fun!

Also, did the Doctor say he renamed a galaxy 'Alison'?

It was a lack in the universe which had to be rectified.

My prediction is next week the doctor and master have to co-operate to fight the time lords. I think that would be great.
