|02:38 pm - Old Ladybirds|
Here are some super old Ladybird Book covers (and some other illustrations too) for sale as posters. These were the children's books when I was a little girl. I recognise loads of them:
Bunnikin's picnic party
Mick the disobedient puppy
Red Riding Hood (I loved that one)
Tootles the taxi
Gosh, Tootles the taxi. I think I can remember the poem
I'm Tootles the Taxi
I'll give you a ride
Just lift up your hand
And jump inside
I'm Tony the tractor
And I work the land
... can't remember
Ah. I haven't seen these for about 45 years.
British Wild Animals. Look at how beautiful those pictures are. I pored over these books.
Our Land in the Making. A two book series where I first learned about History.
This is a massive nostalgia trip for me.
I didn't think I knew Tootles the Taxi, but I recognise the cover. I recognise lots of those pictures. Especially the elves from The Elves and the Shoemaker.
What I'm finding from looking at them is that I have very mixed feelings - they are both comfortably familiar and also a little dark and disturbing. I'm not sure what that's about.

I wonder if you could have a book encouraging children to get into random cars that stop for them today.
Only if the cars have nice friendly faces on.
