|10:53 pm - Surely Holmes|
BTW has everyone who might be interested seen the trailer for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes? If you haven't seen it yet here it is.
Well. It looks mental. I still think Jude Law and Robert Downey Jnr are the bee's knees though.
H says it looks like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I bloody hope it isn't.
The bit of me that loves Sherlock Holmes is gazing sternly at the bit of me that loves the trailer with a disapproving glint in its eye.
Hey - good way of putting it.
It totally looks mental. Somehow, I cannot bring myself to mind.
The boxing looks pretty good. Have you seen Snatch? Ritchie does that sort of nonsense quite well.
It looks like the worst thing in the world and I want to see it right now.
Yes. I know. I've shown it to a few people, and at the point where he jumps out the window, they always start laughing incredulously.
wow...i'm looking forward to this. It's been a while hasn't it? I'm one of hte few chicks who really digs Guy Richie's films...this should be good, hope the story is full of random violence and english odd-bodies!
I think it definitely will be. Is that a vampire in there? It makes me laugh.
I can hardly wait to see that. It looks like the best bad slashfest since the latest Vin Diesel movie.
I just shared it with happytune, true to form she laughed when he jumped out the window. My favourite bit is probably
Jude Law: 'Holmes, is there no limit to your depravity?'
Robert D Jnr: 'Neeuw'
Under the "Why the hell do they keep casting Yanks as Brits and Brits as Yanks?" heading, how does Downey's accent sound to you? In my ear, it was so-so. Nothing can compare to Jamie Bamber's perfect American accent in BSG (I was utterly flummoxed when I heard his natural voice in an interview), but that's the trans-atlantic dialect standard I hold up for them ALL.
I don't think it sounds too bad. A bit affected, but arguably that's characterisation. I think voice coaching must be an advanced science these days.
Somewhere around Bridget Jones's Diary or maybe Gwyneth Paltow's stab at Emma, I get the impression that someone discovered a key to it, and it's been exploding ever since.
I knew a Frenchwoman years ago who had moved to the US as a young adult and she had no trace of a French accent. She attributed it to strong negative motivation (she was made fun of) and some very expensive, very demanding speech training.
So I suppose that methods have been around for a while, but someone must have made them more accessible to a wider range of learning styles or something in recent years. I'd love to know more, because it would be great to have a better accent in whatever language I attempt!
It looks entirely daft. I don't have any particular investment in any version of Holmes, so I think it looks like enormous amounts of fun.
Sometimes films like this can be so dreadful, but I've decided to be optimistic
So long as the fisticuffs are balanced out by the scenes of Watson complaining about Holmes leaving the toilet seat up, I think it will be a hoot. I shall be optimistic too.
I am firmly in the awesome camp.
'awesome camp' is what I'm looking forward to
LOL times a million, this looks like so much fun - slashy, depraved nonsense with added vampires! Can't wait.
