|12:42 pm - University Challenge|
The other telly I watched last night was the final of University Challenge. It was very exciting, with a last minute dash to victory from Corpus Christi.
There's a nice Guardian story plus comments on Gail Trimble, the captain of the winning team, who answered the majority of questions. I am naturally Oxbridge-averse, on account of they are naturally prole-averse, but I suppose that's not her fault, and I did like her as a person. I found her endearing.
She also has a kind and sensible brother:
"Would you believe it, my brother received a Facebook message from Nuts yesterday morning saying 'can we have your sister's email address, we want her to do a tasteful shoot'," the 26-year-old told BBC Breakfast. "So of course he sent them an answer saying: 'Seriously mate, would you give your sister's contact details to Nuts?'"
I noticed her particularly for her decisive confidence when they debated answers and she invariably seemed to make a snap judgement that was correct.
She didn't seem over-edgy like some do, I felt she took it seriously without showing off.

It's annoying though that some are already having a go at her; seems a lot of people still simply cannot stand the idea of a clever woman.
A few. I'm just glad they seem like dinosaurs these days.

You do seem to have picked up a lot of Oxbridge friends, despite this flaw in our characters.
please try harder next reincarnation
Hoc est Corpus meum. I'm not planning on getting another body.
oh well, better love you just the way you are then :-)

I haven't seen the final yet, but I've enjoyed her performances so far. She came across to me as fun and engaged and sweet, and certainly not smug. And good for her sensible brother.
I'm usually Oxbridge-averse when watching UC, too, but I also prefer to cheer teams on that have women in them.
Yes, I have just that dilemma too

I missed the final, but in the clips I saw online this morning she was delightful: smart, self-possessed, and more than a tiny bit geeky. Good for her, good for her brother.
Yes, she was nice. Some of the Uni Challenge people are a bit annoying to be honest - a bit like the Egg Heads if you've seen that show - but she was sweet.
