|12:31 am - the things parents have to do|
a few days back my daughter had norovirus. yuck. she was sick in the kitchen sink and blocked it, and i had to clear it out with my hands. god it was disgusting. one of the most disgusting things i've had to do. then she went to the bathroom sink and was sick in that. man. however, i was very careful and cleaned everything with bleach, and washed my hands and i didn't get sick thank goodness - so hand washing obviously does work because i couldn't have been more exposed to the wretched stuff
seen a few people mention norovirus - probably worth being extra careful at present
ps - there are no capital letters in this post because the cat is sitting on my hand
I am a nonparent.
But my sister is a parent, and she said she only fully realized it was true -- she really was a parent -- when she had to touch vomit.
Aye, sick and poo. It's when you realise nobody else is going to do it.
Oh, yuch. I've twice had to clean my friend's vomit out of sinks with my hand, but I was drunk both times, so I don't really remember it very well, thankfully. I hope your daughter's better now and that you don't get sick.
Also, I just had to say, your last line made me laugh out loud.
That was extraordinarily kind of you. I don't think I've ever done that for a mate.
She's been better several days and I didn't get it - I was a bit worried because she was in a right old state.
I remember doing it for a boyfriend at college. Not to mention for myself. I think I've got a bit more relaxed about clearing up vomit after ten months with Tabitha (especially) and Rosie, but at least the cats don't produce very much of it.
I did get Norovirus after changing Arthur B's nappy as he was going down with it two years ago, despite a lot of handwashing, but it wasn't nearly as bad as the time I got it from my sister. So well done on coping and staying healthy.
In the last few days, Tabitha's worked out she can sit on me while I'm typing; I can just about change case, but it slows me down a lot.
Milo the boy cat we got loves laptops - I mean electronic ones not human ones. He spurns the seated human unless they have a laptop and then he snuggles up all friendly-like.
It's a shame the cat was sitting on your hand because parts of that post deserve capslock. Ick. I struggle with clearing up feline vomit when wearing rubber gloves and wielding miles of kitchen roll. Bare hands?
I salute parents everywhere!
Feline vomit is the worst. I remember seeing my mum clean up cat sick with worms in it, when I was little, and thinking 'I'm glad I'm not grown up'

Only one end? My, you were lucky. I was staying with a friend in one of those US apartment houses that has very bad plumbing...
Oh god. Luckily that wasn't something I had to deal with
It's very worth being careful with that virus. The effects can knock you below par for weeks.
I can imagine it could, though she seems to have bounced back from it fairly rapidly.
