I couldn't stay up through the night to watch the results in - I'm still not well enough. However, I'm very pleased to wake up this morning to such wonderful news. A very hopeful day. I have nothing to add to the lovely sheaf of posts in my f-list this morning. Wonderful news. Well done American voters. It's great to see power going to a person who is capable and dynamic, and of good will. I just hope it isn't too late.

"I just hope it isn't too late." Me too. And that you'll soon be well beyond this bronchitis episode and on to a good recovery. Many hopes. I too woke to the wonderful news this morning: could hardly believe, as I saw blinking phone messages as I was turning on the computer, that... "In a minute I'll know." Weird feeling. After all these months!

I staggered downstairs bleary-eyed this morning and my daughter told me the result before I could go on-line - her best friend had texted her before breakfast, and they are only 16.

It occurred to me last night that just about the only male relative he ever seems to have spent any significant time with was his maternal grandfather. For the rest - mother, grandmother, sister, wife, daughters. This man has to understand the importance of women! I'm hoping it may be a good break for Africa, too.

I think you have a Deadwood icon for every eventuality. Doesn't he look like his maternal grandad though.

Well, some of them. The sad thing is that I rarely dare to use my Trixie one. I like it, but every time I want to bring it out I think "Hm... they might not get that..."

I'm in the UK, so that was about 3 or 4am I think

(PS - thanks: I'm a bit grumpy because I don't feel as well as I expected to by now)

I'm always annoyed by people who act stupidly, which means that the US government has been seriously annoying me for the past eight years. I'm fairly hopeful that there'll be less annoyance in the years to come.

One of my f-list posted 'At last, a president who is more intelligent than me', and I actually think he is (way more intelligent than me, I mean). Which is great.

No miracles promised or expected (at least by me), but I think he'll do good for us all. He's got brains, good ideas, he's tough, and god knows the election has proven he can take pressure like the best of 'em...

And he's shown how good he is at making people want to work for progress, which is a change.

Yes, the process of getting to this position has required great resources of mind, emotion, charisma. I hope the same resources help him make a good job of the task ahead.
