08:38 am - Off for the long weekend I am just off to the Peak District for the long weekend. Hope the weather is OK.
I've been accepted as a volunteer (actually a trainee volunteer) to man a phone line for the Anxiety Alliance* who give support to people suffering from panic attacks and anti-depressant withdrawal and the like. This would just be for four hours a week. Quite intensive training and then a long probation period, so plenty of time for me to make a mess of it.
*ETA Awful website isn't it? I see they say their helpline is only open 10am-4pm, but they have asked me if I can work evenings, so I wonder if they are trying to expand their coverage.

Yes, I don't think it's soothing. BTW we must discuss arrangements for next weekend after I get back from this short hols. I was thinking we might go to a folk/acoustic night at the Hope and Anchor on Friday night, but it depends how tired you are likely to be. Crikey, I see what you mean about the web site. But the aims are good, and your gift for listening and understanding - and the experience that you've had with your course and related work - must make you someone they'll be glad to have. Is the work something that you would do from home?
Have a great long weekend! Thanks glitterboy, I would like to extend my experience. Yes, they redirect calls to your own phone for the 'shift'. I'm not sure how they do the training, but I think there's some face to face. It's lovely at the moment. You should have mentioned the Peak District earlier - it would have been nice to try and meet up! |
