As well as directing The Hobbit, Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth) has signed up to direct the film of At the Mountains of Madness by HP Lovecraft (link to download story). Now that prospect excites me. It would be so easy for it to be terrible, but I bet it will be good. Two years or more until we know, anyway.
