altariel thread I linked to yesterday there was some support for getting Diana Wynne-Jones in to write for the next season of Who. I was talking to happytune at lunch about the idea of recruiting guest star writers to inject fresh life into the show, in the manner of Derek Jacobi and (redacted) type guest actors. There are so many great writers in Britain today, and even if they weren't comfy with writing in script format, they could frame the narrative and key scenes, perhaps working with a professional script writer or editor.For instance, I am thinking they could recruit children's writers (Jacqueline Wilson?) SF writers (Iain Banks? well, there are so many talented names nowadays) even writers from outside the genre (Zadie Smith? Jake Arnott?) It could be so cool. Have you got any suggestions?
If you are bored with doctor who - what about other shows? God knows Torchwood could do with a bit of a boost. And shows I don't watch like The Bill and Eastenders and Holby City. I think it could get viewers interested in the writers' books, and interested in the concept of the script as one of the drivers of the show. Though perhaps most viewers couldn't care less.
