The other aspect that I'm interested in is the vividness, the immersive quality. I suppose realism is something that dates very rapidly. I remember (this sounds ridiculous) but when I was a kid Mission Impossible and crappy shows like that seemed extremely real and vivid to me. I wonder whether one day I'll look back on Deadwood and laughingly say 'and I used to think that was gritty realism'.
