Deadwood

I saw the last episode of Season 1 of Deadwood last night. It was magnificent. Just occasionally it went over the top, but it was moving, complex and eloquent.

I think we are attracted to shows set in amoral circumstances because goodness shines through. Our normal lives are so bound-about with conventional piety, that the true goodness, which is there, is muffled. I think Deadwood is a show about goodness, and about vitality.

I find the dialogue better than any other show I watch. Last night poor H was trying to fix a new laptop, which was playing up as they do, and I kept saying 'put that down and listen to these words'.
