A very quick note here about a posting in Ampersand. It is a sensible, calm, discussion by a man about the subject of rape. The guy seems like a nice fellow. But also, he is somebody who has observed, thought about what he has observed, and changed his mind. Largely as a resut of people discussing the issue with him on and off line, in a friendly and polite way.
He reminds me a little of Montaigne, whose opinions about the inferiority of women changed, in his essays, once his daughter reached intellectual maturity. He observed the world around him, and revised his opinions accordingly, and you can't say fairer than that.
Memo to self - try to be more temperate and persuasive.
