The new Doctor Who series got off to a good start. Not great but pretty good. As Charlie Brooker said, maybe not as wonderful as it might have been, but still better than nearly everything else broadcast this week.

Coincidentally a key theme was the importance of touch in humanising people, plus the good old Doctor Who-ish celebration of diversity. altariel points out the use of the green crescent instead of the red cross.

David Tennant's attempt to impersonate Zoe Wanamaker => Austin Powers.

Billy Piper continues to do a great job.

The deus ex machina made no sense at all.

Cassandra's death scene = not a dry eye in the house

Are we skirting a bit close to deifying the Doctor? I don't object in theological terms, but in story terms it's a bit risky. Apotheosis paints you into a plot corner.

We can steal from Hollywood films like Minority Report and The Matrix. Because we want to!
