A tragedy

Geek joke? One which depends on obscure background knowledge, preferably to a rather annoying degree :-) And for bonus points apes or ridicules an existing type of joke. Here's mine.

'I'm putting on a new production of Oedipus Rex. My problem is that my wife has auditioned for the female lead.'
'Jocasta?'
'No, I didn't think she was right for the part'
