breaking bad

ninebelow posts a review of Divided Kingdom by Rupert Thomson. I don't want to talk about the book, which I haven't read, but the premise. In this story Britain is divided into four zones, and people are allocated according to their 'humour': choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic or melancholic.

What struck me is that this would be very bad for me, because my four-person family has got one of each. I'm choleric, my daughter is sanguine, H is phlegmatic, and my son is melancholic. Were we born this way, or have we moved to occupy those positions to complement each other? No idea.

Also - god, the last place I'd like to be is stuck in a zone with a load of other choleric types. Bad tempered old gits.
