breaking bad

hooked to the silver screen

Life on Mars this week was very good. While last week I had a few issues, this time I wasn't disappointed at all. I think it did dip it's toe in the 'is this man barking mad' water, and how that madness affects the people around him, though I think Annie forgave him rather too readily. Conversely we were reminded that when you live in a violent world, your choice is not how to change the world, but how to exist within it. I understand, too, that the character of Gene can be seen as interesting as an intelligent man who is working through that dilemma.

Get stuck in

I've just come back from a rehearsal, and I can confidently say now that this performance is going to be quality. The women involved are quite varied people, not all super-confident or flashy in their demeanour. And yet, each one delivers their piece with such conviction. In some cases with simplicity, in other cases a full dramatic performance, and in each case well judged to play to that woman's strength. In all honesty I didn't expect it to work out so well. I have been amazed all my life at how interesting and talented people are. You'd think I'd be used to it by now.

Anyway, the monologue I am doing is called 'My Angry Vagina' and I'm gonna give it some stuff.

I hope we get a good audience. But I once went to see 'A mouthful of birds' by Carol Churchill, and the audience was tiny. About 12 people in the big Welsh National Theatre in Cardiff. But the actors gave out with a full on performance, and I personally will never forget that day.
