breaking bad

Two films

I finally got around to watching Y Tu Mama Tambien, the film Alfonso Cuaron made before 'Prisoner of Azkhaban'. I liked it a lot. It's about a three-way relationship between a woman and two young men, who are both pretty dumbo in the way of younger men, but very nice looking. The sex scenes are fairly explicit and sexy (IMHO) though the surrounding atmosphere was sensitive and mournful. The interactions of the characters were realistic, to my mind. Part of the point of the film was that the woman has confidence, complexity and depth that the boys lack (because they are still so young), and I thought the acting and direction managed to put this across.

Completely unrelated: here is a link to a sexy video nicely edited from the various sometimes-tacky films that Adam Baldwin has been in over the years (follow link to page with download). If you like that sort of thing, this is the sort of thing you will like. Big time. Otherwise, ignore.

ETA - slightly edited that last paragraph to make it clear that I thought the video was well made. Seriously, a real labour of love for which all AB fans are grateful.

I can stop any time I like

greengolux writes about Chuck Palahniuk's somewhat repulsive short story Guts, and the dilemma of whether to stop reading a story or not. Various comments take up the theme, and everyone who has read this story did confront the issue of whether to continue or not. When it was published in the Guardian I started to read it, figured out where it was going, and put it aside unread. Take a look at the story ALL IN CAPS ON METAFILTER if you want to see for yourself, but I don't recommend it as (as far as I can tell) it is gloating body-horror of a cheap and nasty kind (IMHO).
