I went to see Hero. I thought it was great, and the people I went with did too. However it is much more stylised than Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. It's like an opera or a ballet in that respect: it's a very stately and non-realist art form. It's a film for those who like to see beautiful men and women fighting each other with knives in gorgeous dresses without breaking a sweat, interspersed with lovely architecture and scenery, and a little bit of sedate chat. Luckily I like that fine.

A central concept of the film is 'Tian Xia' which literally means heaven/under and is used to signify the empire, and sometimes the world of mankind. They translated it in the subtitles as 'our land'. The film is about the sacrifices people make to be a hero. My heading means 'Under heaven all know beauty is beautiful'.

A very rude man in the audience spent a lot of the film sighing and groaning ostentatiously. I don't know why he didn't just leave. It does prove that it's not everyone's cup of tea.

If you do go and see it, my favourite character was an assassin called Sky who fought with a silver spear. He was utterly gorgeous.

I see Gove has backed down on climate change and it's back in the curriculum again.
