01:06 pm - On despotism
This is an interesting 10 minute film about political despotism, made by Encyclopedia Britannica in the 1940s. Despite being an American film it seems quite left wing - at least left wing by today's standards (it was probably moderate mainstream at the time). If a government excludes poor people from education, if the tendency is to distribute income from the poor to the rich, if the interests of big business are allowed to influence the media, if the curriculum is based around memorising facts, if ownership is concentrated on a few, if people are not respected on the basis that they are not wealthy, then the tendency is to despotism.

I'm not saying anything.

I find the juxtaposition of the mainstream presentation and the slightly lefty contents quite touching
