04:36 pm - Punishment of Luxury In 1979 my favourite band was Punishment of Luxury (we used to call them Punilux). Lefty SF influenced punk rock. Their LP Laughing Academy was wonderful. Well, I thought so as a teenager.
There's an article on them in the Guardian today. God that takes me back. I saw them play live just once and I loved them.

Comments:
"The spectacle of fiftysomethings in Star Trek-type outfits is initially disturbing..." Words to live by.
Oh, I wish I had been there. I hope they do more gigs. They had a track called 'The Message' which was about a species like the Andromedans in B7. They wouldn't come to Earth because they didn't want to take our form.
I don't know the band, but that is a lovely article.
'I close my eyes and I'm back at Futurama, dazzled by lasers, my whole life ahead of me.'
I still feel like this inside.
I read that article this morning, and it gave me goosebumps. Great music journalism. It reminded me so vividly of seeing the band that changed my life, Swamptrash, completely by accident back in them late 80s.

I wrote the article. I'm really pleased with the comments here, made my day... they were/are an amazing band and hopefully we can all mobilise, tell others and make a proper tour possible
It's a great article, and thanks for coming by and commenting. I will do my best to stir up some kind of a revival. If tickets for the one-off were getting a good price on e-bay then anything is possible. They've aged well too, from the photo. |
